Musser Maclay Moore, Jr. passed away on September 7, 2011 in Madison, at the age of 92. A Madison resident from 1996 through 2011, "Muss" was born in Ridley Park, PA amidst the flu pandemic of 1918. The son of Musser M. Moore and Ella Vera Allison, he grew up in nearby Narberth, PA. Immediately after his birth, Muss spent the first days of his life with his mother, in an outdoor tent ward, temporarily erected to keep newborns apart from flu patients in the hospital. A graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Muss pursued a career in aeronautical engineering and manufacturing. His career began in Hartford, CT where he met and married Jean Murray Beighley of Zelienople, PA and later had five children, all raised and educated in Ridgewood, New Jersey. During his career, Muss held positions with Vertol Aviation, Boeing Aircraft, Curtiss-Wright Aeronautics, and Federal Electric Corporation. A resident of Ridgewood, NJ from 1957 to 1996, he was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America - Troop 5, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church. Muss served as a Trustee of The Church, and also taught Sunday School during the 1970's. At work, Muss pursued his favorite pastime, as Chairman of the Federal Electric Golf Club and League. In addition to golf, Muss was an avid photographer, model railroader, Jersey Shore aficionado, and active participant in all of his children's activities. Those who knew Muss will remember him for his humorous mannerisms, friendly demeanor, and dedication to all that he pursued. He was eagerly helpful to all, and a burden to none. Married in 1948, Musser's wife Jean passed away in 2006. Muss is survived by his five children; Nina, Mussie, Pam, Ted, and Tina; and 7 grandchildren. Muss enjoyed a full, wonderful life; complete with challenge, achievement, and joy. Muss remained independent and active until his final days. In his 90's Muss traveled to Hawaii, California, Yellowstone, The Tetons, and the Grand Canyon Region on vacations with his children. His last days were comfortably attended by HospiceCare of Madison, WI, and for that the family is extremely grateful. Musser will be interred with his wife Jean in Zelienople, PA, where a memorial service is planned for the Summer of 2012. For those wishing to commerorate the life of Musser Moore; and In lieu of flowers; the family recommends donations to HospiceCare of Madison, WI, or to the Zelienople, PA Public Library, an institution founded and supported by mother-in-law Mary Beighley and wife Jean Beighley Moore.
