Myrle Mitchell

March 25, 1925 — August 15, 2011

Sun Prairie - Myrle Lorraine (Zimpel) Mitchell, 86, passed away August 15, 2011 at Kindred Hearts Assisted Living Center, Sun Prairie, after a long battle with cancer. She was born March 25, 1925, the youngest child of Otto Paul and Cora Mae (Nogel) Zimpel in Butternut, Wisconsin.

After graduating from high school, she lived in East Alton, IL and later in Madison, WI where she worked as a bookkeeper for Rayovac and the Farm Bureau Federation in Madison. She was introduced to her husband by her future sister-in-law, Rita Mitchell, who also worked at the FBF. She was married to Redfield (Red) Mitchell on November 4, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Sun Prairie WI.

She will be best remembered as a loving mother who was "always there" when her kids came home from school. She will also be remembered as "Mom Mitchell" by the other children she cared for after her own children were grown.

She was a member of the Dane County Extension Homemakers and Starlight Chapter #283 of the Eastern Star, serving as treasurer. She was active in Job's Daughters as her daughters were growing up. She especially enjoyed going to the Sun Prairie Colonial Club for ceramics, quilting and playing cards.

Myrle is survived by her husband, Red, and their children Susan (Ed) Atkinson, Michael, Karen (Ron) Nowakowski, Mary, James, Jeanne (Ken) Arndt and Laurie (Rich) Vanderbloemen, 6 grandchildren, Paige and Cierra Arndt, Taylor and Megan Vanderbloemen, Marie (Scott) True and Richie Vanderbloemen; and three great-grandchildren, Ellyson True and McKensey and Jude Vanderbloemen. She is also survived by her sister, Nelda Green, and her children Michael (Gloria) Green, Donald Green and Peggy (Warren) Porter and their children and grandchildren and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, Otto and Cora Mae Zimpel, her brothers Irwin (Pete), Donald, Carl, Earl and Eugene and her sisters Edna (Les) Burmeister and Ardean (Richard) Kaufman.

The family wishes to sincerely thank Kristin, Erica, and Therese with the Hospice In Home team and Michelle, Nikki, and Melissa with the Hospice Emerald team and the staff at Kindred Hearts of Sun Prairie for the excellent care and compasion that they showed to Myrle during the past months.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to HospiceCare Inc. and Starlight Chapter #283 of Eastern Star.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 21, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cress Funeral Home, Sun Prairie with Eastern Star service beginning at 6:00 PM and a visitation will also be held on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at the Cress Funeral Home on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Kurt Liebenow will officiate. Burial will follow at Pierceville Cemetery, Town of Sun Prairie.

Thank you, Mom, for always being there for us. It is now our time to be there for you. We love you and will miss you dearly. You will always be in our hearts. We can see you in ourselves--your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Your spirit lives in each of us. You taught us well. We will continue to share your lessons.
