Madison - Nan Weston Thompson passed away peacefully at Agrace Hospice Care on Sunday, January 3, 2016 surrounded by members of her family whom she loved so dearly. Nan was born on April 29, 1927, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. F. L. Weston. She was raised in Madison, WI and chose to
spend her retirement years in Madison as well.
Nan's high school years were at Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA and she graduated from
college at the University of Wisconsin where she was a Delta Gamma. She furthered her
education at the National College of Education in preparation for her teaching career. Nan
taught 2nd graders in Ardmore, PA in the Lower Merion School District for a few years. Her
desire to get back to the Midwest landed her in Milwaukee, WI where she taught
kindergarteners for 30 years at the Doerfler School in South Milwaukee.
Nan married Robert Fellows Thompson in May of 1977. Their married life was spent in Whitefish
Bay, WI. Badger football games brought Nan and Bob back to Madison for every home game. In
fact, sports in general were Nan's passion. She loved her Badgers and Packers and during
college days, she was a boxing enthusiast. She also made a darn good tennis doubles' partner
for family tennis tournaments.
Nan was an avid gardener and baker and thoroughly delighted in making delicious pies and
cakes for any occasion! Perhaps she was best known for her wonderful plates of miniature
Christmas cookies, a tradition passed on to her from her mother.
Nan started living at Capitol Lakes in Madison when Bob passed away. She made many
wonderful friends there both
residents and staff. She faithfully performed "Pony Express"
duties there and was well known as the Wednesday morning cookie lady.
Nan was adored by her 19 nieces and nephews, 32 great nieces and nephews, and 2 great
great nieces and nephews! Highlights of favorite Aunt Nan activities included nights on the
sleeping porch, making gingerbread houses, eating Welsh rarebit before football games and
TREASURE HUNTS! From Nan's baby picture on the cover of Dr. H. Kent Tenney's book Let's
Talk About Your Baby , to her exquisite cross stitch creations, to her beautifully knit baby
blankets and afghans, Nan has left a wonderful legacy. She will be dearly missed by all.
Nan is survived by siblings Sue Weston van Steenderen and Dr. Carl B. Weston, inlaws William
E. Johnson, Joyce O. Weston, and John J. Frautschi, their extended families, stepchildren
Karen Thompson Nondorf (John), Scott Fellows Thompson (Roberta), and Terry Thompson

Nan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert Fellows Thompson, siblings Jane
Weston Johnson, John Cassoday Weston, and Mary Weston Frautschi, inlaws Frits van
Steenderen, and Sue Hazekamp Weston, nephews Peter E. Johnson and Carl J. Weston, niece
