Waunakee- Nancy M. Capaul, age 76, of Waunakee, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison after an extended illness with her family by her side. She was born on November 16, 1946 in Madison, daughter of Ben Brown and Madeline Herndon. She married James (Jim) Capaul on June 27, 1970 at St. Mary of the Lake Church in Westport, WI, where she was a member for 53 years. Nancy graduated from Portage High School. She attended UW Oshkosh, UW Whitewater and then went on to graduate from Madison General School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison and then Central Wisconsin Center in Madison until retirement.
In her free time, Nancy loved to spend time with her family more than anything. She was her grandkids’ number one fan at sporting events, recitals and concerts. Mima was so proud of all their accomplishments. Nancy cherished her many trips to Florida, Daytona Beach being her favorite destination. She enjoyed combing the beach for seashells and was always on the lookout for manatees. She also spoke fondly of her trip to Norway, cruise to the Bahamas, Alaskan cruise and land tour, and fishing trip to Canada. Every year she planted a big vegetable garden and numerous flats of flowers, with planning starting as early as January. Each spring she also anticipated the return of the sandhill cranes and was a member of the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, WI. When fall rolled around, she loved going to Horicon Marsh with her family for her birthday to see the migrating geese. Nancy also enjoyed being a passenger on many Harley rides with Jim and was a member of the Harley Owners Group of Madison. Other pastimes included watching her horse, Brandy, race on tracks in Wisconsin, an occasional trip to the casino, listening to the fighter jets fly over their home, and celebrating many special occasions at the Ishnala and the Elk’s Club, where Jim was a life member. Lastly, Nancy was a big Badger, Packer and Brewer fan and enjoyed cheering them on during game days. Nancy is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Jim Capaul; her children, Jim (Beckie) Capaul, Jeff Capaul and Kim (Randy) Feasel; her grandchildren, Kelsey and Nolan Feasel; Nathan, Nora and Chris Capaul; William and Benjamin Capaul. Nancy is also survived by her sister Suzanne Dixon, brother Gary Brown (Mary Moses) and brother Jim (Terri) Brown.
