Nancy Mcausland

June 16, 1960 — April 28, 2017

Nancy McAusland raised a white flag in one hand and a middle finger raised high on the other aimed directly at the Fronto Temporal Dementia that tried its best for years to steal her life and her soul. She managed to remain true to herself despite this insidious disease to the very end, April 28, 2017.

Nancy was born June 16, 1960 to Philip and Kaye McAusland (Quan). She graduated from West High School in 1978 and went to UW Madison where she was on the Dean's List for three years and graduated with distinction in 1982 with a major in Communication Arts.
Nancy's true passion in life (besides laughter) was music and in her early years, she DJ'd at various clubs in the Madison area and was a favorite at the Stone Hearth. She loved anything from the 70's and idolized Andrea True. She collected a vast assortment of music, especially from the Disco era. She also loved to travel and never missed an opportunity to go somewhere. Her favorite destinations were Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. She befriended many workers and performers at both places. She was "Photoshop" before there was such a thing! You wanted to be careful about the pictures that she might acquire of you as your head just might appear on some other "body" or someone else's head on your body and then posted in the most interesting places!

She began a 29 year career at FedEx in 1986. There she was best known for her incredible work ethic and her laugh. Oh, that laugh! It was her signature. Anyone who heard it once immediately knew the source! It was her way of announcing her arrival and it was infectious! She made so many friends at work, co-workers and customers alike.

Nancy never lost her child-like enthusiasm for life. She found humor and delight in the most ordinary things and she brightened the lives of those around her. She never lost the ability to see the wonder in this world and to find the very best in people.

She was an amazingly loyal, kind and compassionate person and her family meant everything to her. She and her father cared for her mother while she battled this same illness with such dedication and devotion. Her humor and the bright light she brought to all who knew her will be forever missed.

Per her request, there will be no services but there will be a celebration of life held at a later date.

Special thanks to Dr. Ellen Barbouche, Dr. Susanne Seeger, the staff at Fountainhead Homes in Deforest and everyone at Heartland Hospice for their unfailingly compassionate care during Nancy's journey. Anyone wishing to make a memorial please consider the Alzheimer's Association or a Hospice of your choosing.

Lift your eyes to the sky, smile, and laugh with absolutely every fiber of your body and then find someone special, and hug them fiercely. Be free my friend.
