Nellie Simmons

McFarland- Nellie "Nickie" Simmons, age 85, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013. She was born on July 15, 1928 in Beloit, the daughter of Victor and Freda Briggs. Nellie was united in marriage to Roy Simmons on June 28, 1946 and they enjoyed 57 years together before his death on December 8, 2003. She was a member of McFarland Lutheran Church and enjoyed making crafts and dried flower arrangements for the church bizarre. Although she had many interests her greatest joy came from being a wife, mother and grandmother and living on Lake Kegonsa for 57 years. Nellie is survived by her three children, Roy III (Mary) of Madison, Patrick of Columbus and Gay (Heather) of McFarland; three grandchildren, Roy IV, Jenelle and Audra; sister, Arvesta Penewell of Beloit; and brother, Donald Briggs of Tampa, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Royal and Bill Briggs. A private funeral service was held. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Agrace HospiceCare Inc. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much.
