Nettie Louise Spevacek

Spevacek, Nettie L.   MADISON   Nettie L. (Anderson Slickman) Spevacek, age 102, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2009, at the Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, Fitchberg, after a brief illness.   Nettie was born on April 17, 1907, on a farm in Norway Grove, Vienna Township, near DeForest, the 9th of 13 children of Ole and Mary (Sorenson) Anderson, a well-known Dane County pioneer family.   Nettie was baptized and confirmed at the Norway Grove Lutheran Church and was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Madison, for 76 years.   She retired in 1991 from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.   Nettie was an active member of SAIL (Supporting Active Independent Lives) and enjoyed many years of volunteering and spiritual fellowship at Bethel Lutheran Church.     She married Donald Slickman in 1933 in Madison where they were active in community activities, including square dancing, until his death in 1963.   In 1970, she married Alvin Spevacek in Madison.   Nettie and Al spent many happy winters in Largo, Florida, and traveled to many interesting places together.   Al preceded her in death in 1995.     She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and six sisters.   Nettie is survived by her son David Slickman (Lorraine Morton) of Issaquah, WA, two grandsons Derek (Maren) of Two Rivers, Don of Hilbert, and three great-grandchildren, David, Katie, and Laura Slickman.   She is also survived by three stepsons and their families, William (Patricia) Spevacek of Mineral Point, Robert of Tempe, AZ, David (Nonie) of Falls Church, VA; her sister-in-law Fran Anderson, Madison, special nieces Marie Connor and Jean Mindel, Waunakee, and many other relatives and friends.   Funeral services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Avenue, on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 11 a.m., Rev. Rick Lund officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Private burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.   Memorials may be made to the Bethel Lutheran Church Radio Ministries, 312 Wisconsin Avenue, Madison, WI 53703.
