Middleton

Noel Edward Urben, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at his home in Middleton, Wisconsin. He was the son of Dr. Walter John and Anita Urben.

Mr. Urben spent over forty five years in New York, Milwaukee, and Chicago in commercial and investment banking and private equity. He was President of BT Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of Banker Trust New York Corporation for 14 years. Under his leadership BT Capital Corporation earned one of the highest rates of return of any commercial Small Business Investment Corporation. Subsequently he was a Managing Director/Partner of Windward Capital Partners I and II, private equity funds based in New York City. Over the years he served on over 35 corporate boards of directors.

Mr. Urben was a graduate of Wisconsin High School in 1955 and the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1961. He also attended New York University Graduate School of Business from 1963 - 1965.

Noel was an accomplished curler and forever Broadway fan. He was a fanatic gardener of both flowers and food. He enjoyed games and was especially competitive at cribbage and Scrabble. Noel was an avid traveler, visiting over 60 countries and just last year was in Lithuania celebrating his son's wedding. Other than his family Noel's greatest love was a ten year old golden retriever named Mr. Oz!

Noel is survived by his wife Trisha, daughter Khylie, son Derek and daughter-in-law Brigita, and brother David. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

At his request there will not be any visitation or service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Noel’s name to Olbrich Botanical Gardens.

Noel shared the following:

Dear all: To borrow from one of my all time favorite Broadway shows CATS [which he saw 13 times!], the time came for my "Journey to the Heaviside Layer" (a stretch for me as it is probably the "lower side layer"). And, again borrowing from show business, "It has been a great run!" the ups, the down, the thrills and chills, the many, many laughs and most importantly of all our many friendships over the years . . .

If I am remembered for anything I hope it is for my sense of humor. Without one life is a tough slough. My best to all and may you enjoy the best of health. Damn the gunboats, full speed ahead! With much love and affection, Noel
