Norbert Justin Kramer, world traveler, bon vivant and all-around friendly fellow, died peacefully on April 4, 2023, in Madison, WI under the care of Agrace Hospice.
Norbert was born on March 26, 1931, in Rhinelander, WI to Franklin A. Kramer, Sr and Helen (Middendorf) Kramer. Norbert grew up in Starks, WI the youngest of five children. In 1954, he enlisted and served in the Army, 6th Armored Division, 93rd Battalion until being honorably discharged in 1956, followed by 8 years with the Army Reserve. Following his service, he attended college at UW River Falls, graduating in 1960. He taught high school biology and agriculture in Pulaski, WI before going on to work as a plant pathologist for the State of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture.
Following his retirement, he became a citizen of the world. His adventures took him all over the country and to every continent. His summers were spent at his cottage in Three Lakes, WI or traveling to Europe, Asia, Africa and many other foreign lands. He spent winters in Florida, Australia, Costa Rica and Arizona to name a few. It was during his travels that he met his beloved friend, Jocelyne.
Norbert enjoyed life to the fullest. He built his home in Black Earth in 1974. He enjoyed his greenhouse and gardens; he enjoyed classical music, comics, camping and golfing. He enjoyed debating about politics, visiting lifelong friends and spending time with family.
Survivors include his devoted companion, Jocelyne Pim, of Cobourg, Ontario Canada; nephews John (Vicki) Kramer, Matt Kramer, Mark Kramer, Luke (Kathleen) Kramer and Daniel (Karen) Pence; and nieces Mary Kramer Uithoven, Jill Pence Albrecht, Susan (Tim Kutta) Pence, Nancy (Lee) Pence-Wimmer, Marcia (Robert) Kramer Murray, Teresa Kramer Grobe and Marykay (John) Kramer McIlquham. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews as well as several great-greats. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and their spouses Bernard (Margaret) Kramer, Mary (Fritz) Brenger, Franklin (Laura) Kramer and Helen (Robert) Pence; one nephew Thomas Pence; nephews by marriage, Paul Albrecht and Richard Grobe.
A memorial service will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, on Thursday, April 20th with a visitation from 1-2 followed by a celebration of Norbert’s life at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Agrace Hospice, or a foundation of your choosing.
