MADISON -- Norma H. Burt, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, April 19, 2015.
She was born July 9, 1924, in Bennet, Nebraska, daughter to Elmer and Emma (Baade) Roeder. Norma grew up on a farm in Nebraska, and graduated from Bennet High School in 1941. After graduation she moved to Lincoln, and worked at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph as an operator. Norma married George L. Burt on Dec. 15, 1945, in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1952, Norma, George and their three children moved to Wausau. She worked as a secretary at the Fulton Lumber Co. in Wausau and the University of Wisconsin in Marshfield and Madison. In 1979, she retired from her position as an associate administrator at the UW Arboretum. After the death of her husband in 1999, she moved to Oakwood Village -- Prairie Ridge, where she was a charter member, and lived there until her passing. Norma enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, gardening, reading and music. Norma was a member of Madison VA Hospital volunteers, VFW Auxiliary and Eastern Star.
Norma is survived by her children, Alexa Burt, Kathryn (Richard) Burt-Pierce, and Geoffrey (Jeanne) Burt; grandchildren, Kerstin, Chad, Scot, Michael, Rochelle, Georgia, Nicolas and Cristina; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and one sister.
A celebration of Norma's life will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Madison VA Hospital-Volunteer Program, 2500 Overlook Terrace, Madison, WI 53705.
