Madison – Norman Lee Raberding (“Bumpa”), 92, passed away July 23, 2021. He was born October 25, 1928 in Anthony, Kansas to Wesley and Lillian Raberding. After graduating from Harper High School (KS) he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1950 and served 2 years in the Corp of Engineers during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he attended Kansas State University graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering. He was united in marriage to Marcella Jenks in Manhattan, Kansas on March 21, 1954. His professional career was as a Structural Engineer for Dudley Williams & Assoc. (Wichita, KS), John Flad & Assoc. (Madison) and Arnold & Assoc. (Madison) until his retirement in 1994.
Norman spent his retirement years at the Coves Golf Course in Grand Lakes, OK, at his home in Cross Plains, and fishing at his lakeside cottage on Razorback Lake in Sayner, WI. He was a member of Cleora Baptist Church in Cleora, OK and attended Blackhawk Church in Madison. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge 206 in Harper, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marcella; daughter Lynette Karls (Rick); 4 granddaughters Michelle Karls, Tania Luettinger (Aaron), Angela Wood (Zach), Jacquelyn Mazzara (Brett); and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra, his parents and a brother, Lloyd. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 29th at the Cress Funeral Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service.
