Norman J. Seamonson

December 23, 1919 — September 20, 2010

Stoughton- Norman J. Seamonson, age 90, died on Monday, September 20, 2010.  He was born on December 23, 1919 in Stoughton to John and Nora (Offerdahl) Seamonson, and lived in Stoughton all his life.  Norm started out farming, then turned to carpentry and built many homes in the Stoughton area.  On his retirement, he started making wooden ware for rosemalers, then taught himself chip caring for which he won a gold medal from the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum in 1996.  Norm was very proud of his Norwegian heritage.  He married Marian Flugum on April 29, 1944.  She preceded him in death in 1989.  Together they had four children, Tom (Judy) Seamonson, Mary (Al) Mell, Keith (Sue) Seamonson and June Seamonson, all of Stoughton.  He is further survived by six grandchildren, Gregory Seamonson, Christina (Amos) Smith, John (Whitney) Mell, Jessica Mell, Aaron (Lanae) Seamonson and Amanda (Lawrence) Scheel; five great grandchildren, Caleb and Cadynce Scheel, Tosten Smith, and Kali and Caidyn Seamonson; two sisters-in-law, Alice Seamonson and Dorothy Seamonson; brother-in-law, Glen Gauper; and Norm's beloved feline companions, Simon and Oskar.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; and two brothers, Owen and Donald Seamonson.  At Norm' request, there will be no funeral.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton.  Private burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to Vesterheim or to HospiceCare Inc.
