MADISON- Omer Reese Jones, age 95, died on Friday, April 20, 2018. He was born in Osseo, Wisconsin, October 5, 1922, the son of John Reese and Theresa (Smith) Jones. He attended Osseo grade school and graduated from Osseo High School in 1940. He attended the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire (then known as Eau Claire State Teachers College) from the fall of 1940 through the spring of 1942. He transferred to the University of Wisconsin- Madison for the fall semester of 1942. He served in the US Army from March of 1943 to October of 1945. He participated in the invasions of Anzio Italy, Southern France and Germany.
After the war he returned to the U.W. Madison where he received a P.h.B. in Philosophy in 1947 and an M.S. in Industrial Psychology in 1950.
On February 3, 1951 he married Mary La Verne Van Hulle. He was employed by the University of Wisconsin Extension Class Center program as Coordinator of Student Services from 1950-1953, Inland Steel Company, East Chicago, Indiana from 1953-1956, General Telephone Services from 1956-1964, the State of Wisconsin, Department of Health and Social Services from 1964-1980, and Wisconsin Department of Transportation from 1980-1990. After retirement he participated in organizing and was an active member of the Department of Transportation Retirees Association. He also enjoyed traveling, auditing classes at the University and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife and their four children: Rita Jones, Phyllis (Bill) Jones-Morrison, Timothy Jones all of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin and Patricia (Mark) Weatherhogg of Cedarburg Wisconsin. He is further survived by six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Omer was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Norman Van Hulle and Norman's wife Janette, his sister-in-law Patricia Ponto, her husband Vernon, his sister-in-law Dolores Eparvier, and a grandson.
There will be a gathering to commemorate Omer's life at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 SPEEDWAY RD, MADISON, from 1-4PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
