Ony Hanewall

August 29, 1925 — July 27, 2017

Janesville / Madison - Ony Hanewall, age 91, a woman of quiet faith, great strength and integrity, entered her heavenly home on Thursday, July 27, 2017. She was born on August 29, 1925 to George and Olga (Hanson) Hanewall in Beloit. Ony graduated from Janesville High School in 1942, and went on to earn her Nursing Degree from Kahler School of Nursing, Rochester, MN in 1944. She retired in 1985, after a long career as a Head Nurse at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.

Ony enjoyed traveling to destinations including Spain, France, England and Norway. She was an avid sports fan following the Brewers and Packers. She was honored to throw out the first pitch at a Madison Mallard's game in July 2015. She enjoyed the outdoors, watching birds and loved to garden. She volunteered for many years at the Verona Public Library and in many roles at her church

Ony was a caretaker of her family's memories and a window into the past. She was the family historian and loved to write, particularly of family history and heritage. She had such a generous heart, always giving of herself, with a genuine concern for others.

Ony is survived by her children, Randi Leeder, Jeff (Dawn) Leeder, Linda Leeder, and Kérin (Joe) Falcone; her grandchildren, Christian "C.A.", Jennifer, Jessica, Amber, Jordan, and Gianna; her great-grandchildren, November, Zach, Chloe, Eden and Abby; her great-great-grandchild, Natalie; her brother, John Hanewall; and her sister, Barbara Rittenhouse. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Angie; grandson, Adam; brothers, Bob and Paul; sister, Junie; and the father of her children, Don Leeder.

Mom you're the place we came from, our first home, and the map we follow with every step we take.
You were our first love, our first friend, even our first enemy but nothing on earth can separate you from us. Not time, not space .... not even death.
