Opal Watson

November 11, 1924 — October 24, 2019

Opal A. Watson, age 94, formerly of Pardeeville, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019. Opal was born on November 11, 1924 in the Township of Eagle, Richland County to Avery B. and Elma M. (Cornwall) Elliott. She married Leland Watson on April 15, 1943.

Opal was a strong and faithful Christian, devoted to spreading the message of salvation and praying mightily for those near and far. She served her church thru membership in the Ladies' groups, church suppers and prayer circles.

Opal had many careers throughout her life including her long-term employment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but most important to her was her role as a farmer's wife and a role model to her children. She taught her children so many important values and lessons that they would carry into their own lives. They were taught how to properly clean a home, grow a garden, do laundry and iron a white dress shirt, make their own clothes, and how to skillfull kill a chicken for Sunday dinner!

Opal passed along her love of reading, and she often helped her children with their homework. She instilled in her family the values of sharing with one another, and making sure her children treated others as they would want to be treated.

Opal is survived by her children Linda Morgan, Carol Smith, Norman "Buz" Watson, and Billy Watson; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Opal is preceded in death by her husband Leland; sisters Alice Fritz, Dorothy Schmidt, and Shirley Kobbervig, and grandsons Peter Watson and Jonathan Ray.
