Oriette Hickman, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 5, 2022, at Attic Angels households. She was born on December 28, 1930, in Ridgeway, Iowa, the daughter of Oliver & Emma (Albertson) Hellen. She married Donald Hickman on January 31, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Oriette grew up on a farm near Decorah, Iowa. Her father Oliver passed away when she was only 11 years old. Oriette attended Luther College and had fond memories of the friendships she made while at school. Oriette and Don raised three children along with the help of her mother Emma. Oriette was a proud homemaker who loved caring for and nurturing her family. After her children were grown, she enjoyed traveling with her husband on annual journeys to Europe. As exciting and adventurous as the European trips were, Oriette’s heart remained firmly planted in the Midwest spending most of her adult life in Madison & Des Moines. She loved the simple pleasures in life, adored her children and grandchildren, bargain hunting at her favorite store, Von Maur, and living a slower pace of life that so many people today seem to long for, but few achieve.
Oriette is survived by her daughter Diane (George) Hulick of Verona, WI, sons Jeffrey (Sherry) Hickman of Valparaiso, IN and Gregory (Cathy) Hickman of Lake Elmo, MN; grandchildren Emily (Hector) Valdivia of Madison, WI, Collin (Kirstin) Hulick of Madison, WI, Samuel Hickman of St. Paul, MN, and Erica Hickman of Valparaiso, IN; great-grandchildren Quetzali, Roble, and Olin Valdivia. She is preceded in death by her husband Don on November 15, 2018, and her parents Oliver and Emma.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday July 2nd at the Cress Center, 6021 University Avenue in Madison, WI at 11am. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
