MADISON
Pablo Meyer died unexpectedly in his home on July 30, 2017.
Pablo was born in Madison in October of 1949 to Paul and Victoria Meyer. He was a UW-Madison graduate (sociology), and a successful roofer for over 40 years. Pablo lived life to its fullest in Madison and beyond. He was part of the original staff at the Cardinal Bar where he made lasting friendships with many of the people he met. He was a multi-time jumper in the Polar Plunge and every year looked forward to the challenge. He loved the performing arts, especially symphonies and Latin music. One of his favorite yearly trips was to Copper Harbor, Michigan, where he enjoyed biking, swimming in Lake Superior and watching the sun set over the lake. Pablo felt deeply connected to, and proud of, his Mexican heritage and made many trips to his maternal homeland since childhood.
He had an abundance of love for and from his family and countless friends due to his unique humor, unparalleled gregariousness, and generosity that knew no bounds. Of his many accomplishments, Pablo was most proud of being a father. His daughter Portia was the love of his life and his dedication and devotion to her were unconditional and limitless.
Pablo proudly celebrated 31 years of sobriety recently, and organizations like Al-Anon and Alcoholics Anonymous were important parts of his life. Pablo was very open about his addiction and felt that people should never feel shame admitting when they need help with theirs. To that end, he was always a willing listener to people who needed an ear to bend.
Pablo is survived by his beloved daughter Portia, two sisters, five nieces and nephews, many other family members, and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
A celebration of Pablo's life will take place on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at the East Side Club, 3736 Monona Drive in Madison, from 1-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pablo's name to the Wisconsin Medical Project or the World Wildlife Fund.
Please share your memories for Pablo's family.
