Patricia Mary Gunn (nee’ Wendt) was born on August 11, 1957 at the US Army Hospital in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and passed away on January 2nd, 2024 at UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Her father, Robert Wendt Sr., a WWII and Korean War veteran, was serving at Fort Leonard Wood as First Sergeant during his 20-plus year military career. Marian was her devoted mother. She kept the household together and happy in spite of the fact that military family life could be difficult.
Patricia (Patty) grew up with two older brothers; Robert, the oldest and Gerald. Patty's extended family consisted of twelve aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.
As was the case, military families moved to new assignments almost yearly. Patty spent her early years as an army dependent, navigating the unique challenges and adventures.
After leaving the Army base in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, the family relocated to Ulm, Germany. They moved to Madison in 1961 when their father retired from the Army. Patty was always a good sport when it came to being uprooted on a regular basis.
Throughout grade school and high school, Patty was a good student, always made friends, and held her own with her older brothers. Upon graduation from Monona High School, Patty began work as an administrative assistant.
Patty married James Gunn, previously of Chicago, Illinois at St. Bernard's Parish in Madison, Wisconsin on December 27, 2002. They lived on North Street in Madison for quite a few years, then moved to Melody Lane on Madison's East side.
Patty was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be greatly missed.
She leaves behind her older brother Robert, other relatives and friends including Cherie Miller and Bayli Gorsuch of Mount Horeb, WI who visited her regularly and kept her spirits up in her final days.
Patty was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Gerald. Her husband James also preceded her in death, losing his battle with lung cancer on September 1st of 2023.
A special thanks to the staff at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin for taking such good care of Patty and making her transition from this world to the next a peaceful one.
A private scattering of Patty and her late husband's ashes will be held at a later date.
