Madison - Patricia Smith Hatch died peacefully surrounded by her family on May 3, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital. Pat was born on January 1, 1934 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, the daughter of Sheldon and Bernice Smith. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951, and subsequently graduated in 1955 from St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital, School of Nursing. In 1956, she married James D. Hatch of Lancaster and they were blessed with four children.
Pat worked for many years as a registered nurse at both the Dean Clinic and St. Mary's Hospital. She was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Metropolitan Women's Club and Nakoma Country Club. She was an avid football and basketball fan and she loved her Badgers! Pat loved to play bridge and she especially enjoyed her Nakoma bridge club. She was also fond of music and was an accomplished piano player.
Pat is survived by her husband, James; her four children, Sarah (Scott) Glasrud of Leawood, Kansas, Michael (Kristen) of Madison, Ann (Lucy) of Appleton, Jennifer (Ken) of Eagle, Colorado; her seven grandchildren, Jason (Brooke) Glasrud, Amy (John) Bednarz, Zachary and Johnny Hatch, Ryan, Emily and Michael Hinchliffe; and step-grandchildren, Amanda, Elizabeth, Georgia, Savannah, Katherine and Kalin. She is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren, Ava, Jack, Meredith, Evelyn, Nina, Teddy, Adeline and Vera; as well as many nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Sheldon and Bernice Smith; and two sisters, Jane Sharer and Nancy Ralph.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A Celebration of her Life will immediately follow at Nakoma Country Club from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. A private burial service will be held on Wednesday, May 9.
Pat was a breast cancer survivor of nine years. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in honor of Patricia Hatch to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Bethel Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital for the compassionate care they have provided our mother.
