Patricia “Pat” Cecilia (Theisen) McCormick passed away peacefully on January 29, 2020, in Madison, Wisconsin. She was 94. She looked lovely with her full head of tightly curled naturally brown hair, small traces of white framing the sides. As the priest prepared to read the Last Rites, he put his hand on Pat’s head. Pat perked up and said with slurred speech, ”Don’t mess up my hair.”
Pat was born to Nicholas and Gertrude Theisen on June 23, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph McCormick, her twin sister, Theresa (Theisen) Pretasky, brothers Frank and Joseph, and her older sister, Sister Gertrude Ann Theisen.
She will be missed by her four children – Betty McCormick of Los Angeles, Tom (Nalini) McCormick of Seattle, Dennis (Yolanda) McCormick of Orlando, and Maureen (Don) Powell of Madison, Wisconsin. Pat was blessed with nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
“Fun” Pat believed that the best way to share time and bond with family and friends was to play cards and board games, and to give away the intricate afghans and decorations she crocheted. “Competitive” Pat was found ice skating, playing softball, volleyball, tennis (her absolute favorite sport), shuffleboard and pool.
With a mischievous twinkle in her eye and a gloat in her smile, Pat was thinking to herself, “I won this long game of life!” “I wonder what new games lie ahead?”
A private celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m., February 1, 2020, at the Cress Funeral home, Madison, Wisconsin. To honor Pat, donations can be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., https://www.agrace.org/.
