Paul Everson

December 25, 1958 — May 14, 2017

Paul Joseph Everson, 58, of Madison, Wisconsin passed away on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017 after a long and difficult condition.
Paul was born on December 25, 1958, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He attended St. James Elementery School and graduated Madison West High School in 1977.

Paul worked as a foreman on a painting crew when, in 1986, was dealt a crap sandwich in life and sustained injuries from a bicycle accident that left him with the challenges of being a quadriplegic. Paul worked very hard to overcome his physical challenges and was a model of courage for his family and friends. To help him transition to a new way of moving throughout life, he enrolled in the Adapted Physical Education class at U.W. Madison, created and taught by Tim Gattenby. Tim was excellent in motivating and challenging Paul to reach beyond his perceived limitations. Tim exposed Paul to learning opportunities and experiences that Paul would not have had, if not for Tim and the Adapted Physical Education class. The family appreciates the training and inspiration he gave to Paul.

Paul was a big NASCAR fan along with the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Cubs and enjoyed watching them with his gang of friends. Rick P and Paul watched the games together regularly.

Paul also enjoyed playing cards and hunting with the boys. He especially liked camping outings with the Wisconsin River Pirates, Tony, Rob, Roger and all.

Paul is survived by: Daughter Jessica (Alex) Smith; Brother David (Sandy) Everson (Madison); sisters Carla (Richard) Bartelme (Verona); Linda Everson, Sauk City; Christine Everson-Matson (Terry); Laura Everson, Mt. Horeb; Susan Everson (Fitchburg); Mary Everson (Madison); his aunt Ruby (Richard) Beyler, Monona; Special second cousin (more of a sister) Carol and Ken Blum (Spring Green); Grandchildren Roman and Luna Smith, Madison; nieces Sarah Everson (Minneapolis, MN); Anna and Vanessa Everson of Madison; nieces Dana and Hayley Matson (West St. Paul, MN); Special nephew Dustin Bartelme and his children Lily and Logan (Brooklyn); and the Beyler, Hellenbrand, and Droz Cousins.
Paul is preceded in death by his mother Elaine Everson and father Carl Everson; maternal grandparents, Edward and Odelia Beyler and fraternal grandparents Charles and Otelia Everson.

The family is grateful to the dedicated professional medical staffs of St.Mary's, UW, and Unity Point Meriter Hospitals, and Tim Gattenby of the UW Madison who all had a hand and heart in Paul's life.
