Paul J. Heiser, age 89, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, with his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia, by his side. He was born on December 9, 1934, in Wausau WI to Lawrence and Margaret (Smith) Heiser. He was a 1952 graduate of Wausau High School. Following high school, he obtained his Associates Degree and served in the Army. On September 15, 1962, Paul was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Joo and together they had two children and a blessed life.
Paul loved music and was a talented singer. He was a tenor and sang in the Madison Diocesan Choir, multiple church choirs, and at many weddings and funerals. Paul was the soloist for almost all of his nieces’ and nephews’ weddings, his children’s friends’ weddings and, most importantly, his daughter’s wedding. The gift of his voice will live on in all the wedding videos and he will forever be remembered for his signature song, Ave Maria. Additionally, he performed with the Madison Civic Opera Guild and Madison Theatre Guild. His children have fond memories of dress rehearsals and cast parties. He was a devoted member of the Allegro music group.
Paul was a draftsman for several years, however found his passion when he quit that role and became a house husband in 1972, holding down the fort at home in support of his very successful pediatric oncologist/pediatrician wife, of whom he was extremely proud. Together they navigated very unconventional roles for their time with grace and ease, and were a living example of you can do and be anything. Paul was also a successful property owner and became life-long friends with most of his tenants.
In retirement, Paul and Patricia traveled the southern United States in their Class A RV, towing their jeep. Over the years they traveled from Charleston, SC, to Julian, CA, and everywhere in between. They enjoyed sightseeing and hiking, and escaping the Wisconsin winter. Their favorite places were Big Bend National Park and Everglades National Park. There were always stories to tell upon their return home.
Paul always had a smile and wink for everybody he encountered. He loved mischief and a good brandy manhattan with extra bitters. He had a large circle of friends. Paul lived life to the fullest. He loved his family deeply and gifted us with his wisdom, love of life and undying support. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren. He will be profoundly missed by all.
Paul is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia A. Heiser (Joo); his children; Kim (Jerome) Beld of Madison, WI, and Christopher (Jennie) Heiser of Lodi, WI; his grandchildren; Ryan (Jessica Schadrie) Beld, Alexander (Brittany Magrady) Beld, and Kelsey (Terrence Bradley) Beld; his bonus granddaughter Dayna Nichols; his great-grandchildren Zora and Kai Bradley; and his bonus great-grandchildren Kaylie and Kiersten Nichols. Paul is further survived by his brother Jim Heiser and sister Margaret Cooney.
