MADISON - Paul Harold Muenkel, son of Harold and Winifred Muenkel, was born July 9, 1954, and raised near Tenney Park, where he would fish after school. He graduated from Madison East High School, later studying finance and accounting at UW Oshkosh. Paul was a veteran, serving in the Army at Ft. Carson, CO, where he learned to blow up a jeep five ways, and later as a squad leader with the 130th Engineer Brigade in Germany. Back in Madison, he became a mail processor for the U.S. Postal Service, 1984-2019. Paul was a union man, active for many years as a shop steward, as president of the Madison area local of the American Postal Workers Union, and for a term as the state president of the union. He swore he had the thick labor manuals memorized and enjoyed helping his fellow workers. Paul liked travelling, attending country western concerts, and playing bridge or board games with his family. He was a companion to his elderly parents in McFarland for many years. He passed away December 2, 2021, after a long illness. Paul was predeceased by his parents and is survived by siblings Nancy (James) Crossfield, Margie (Richard) Zumbehl, Fred (Mary Jo) Muenkel, nephews and nieces, and former wife Carol Traeger. You will be greatly missed, big guy. Thanks to the supportive staff at Wickshire Senior Living, Madison, and Agrace Hospice, Fitchburg. A private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
