Paul Rasmussen

Madison - Paul W. Rasmussen, age 96, died on Friday, March 16, 2012 at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison. He was born on January 17, 1916 to Peter and Magda (Knudsen) Rasmussen in New Jersey. Paul graduated from Osceola High School in Osceola, Wisconsin in 1936 and then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in northern Wisconsin. Paul graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, with a B.A. degree in Education, and M.S. degree in Philosophy. On December 23, 1948, he was united in marriage to Irene Josephine Benson. Paul was employed by the State of Wisconsin as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, hiking, and the fine arts. Paul is survived by his wife; son, Paul (Maria Barlow) Rasmussen Jr.; grandsons, Andrew and Christian; and a sister, Elsie Peterson (age 94) of Centuria, WI. He was preceded in death by his son, David Benson Rasmussen (in 1967); and a grandson, Jonathan David Rasmussen (in 1988). A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March, 19, 2012 at ADVENT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7118 Old Sauk Road, Madison with Rev. Jeff Wild officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at church. Burial will be held at Norway Grove Cemetery in DeForest.
