Paul Doreal Salmon passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 2, 2021 at age 45. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica on November 13, 1975 to Henry and Doreen “Monica” (Ramharrack) Salmon. Paul received his early education in Jamaica, Montreal and Baltimore, MD. Paul joined his brother Francis to study at the UW Madison where he received his BS and MS in Computer Science. It was there that Paul met his life partner Allison Marie McCarthy. Allison and Paul were married on September 3, 2004 in a grand day of Celebration at Olin Turville Park in Madison, Wisconsin.
After graduation Paul joined EPIC in Madison as software developer on EpicCare Inpatient. Paul worked at Epic for over 20 years moving on to serve as a senior manager of the server systems team and was presently a senior software developer on the Genomics team. In his work Paul was known as an innovative developer and manager. Paul was also valued as a mentor to many new employees as EPIC grew rapidly over the years.
Paul enjoyed traveling, camping, hiking, and biking with his family. In recent years he realized a childhood dream of becoming a private pilot. He enjoyed flying enormously and giving aerial tours of Southern Wisconsin to family, friends, and co-workers.
Paul will be deeply missed by his wife, Allison, son Sean (14) and daughter Coraline (9); father and mother-in-law, Jon and Joan McCarthy; extended family; and many co-workers and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Salmon, his mother, Monica Salmon, his brother, Francis Salmon and his aunt Christine Salmon.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the Cardiac ICU team at the University of Wisconsin Hospital for their extraordinary efforts.
A private Celebration of Paul’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI. Burial will take place privately at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Madison. The service will be live-streamed. In lieu of flowers Memorial gifts in Paul’s name may be sent to the UW Department of Computer Sciences Annual Fund, where a scholarship fund will be created in Paul’s memory.
