Pauline Helgestad

Deerfield- Pauline A. Helgestad, age 86, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Prairie Gardens in Sun Prairie. She was born on October 27, 1930, the daughter of Palmer and Mildred Paulson. Pauline and her sister Mary were raised by their aunt and uncle, Annie and Julius Paulson. Pauline graduated from Cambridge High School. On January 7, 1950 she married Alvin "Cutie" Helgestad at the East Koshkonong parsonage. Pauline worked for many years at Hamlin Industries in Lake Mills putting together electronic switches. After she and Alvin "Cutie" retired, they enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and family, especially spending time with their grandchildren. Pauline loved to read books and always looked forward to the next one. She was a social butterfly and had an infectious laugh. Pauline is survived by her daughter, Barb (Keith) Dettwiler; four sons, Ron Helgestad, Bob Helgestad, John (Sue) Helgestad and Dale Helgestad; nine grandchildren, Cheryl (Craig) Koziol, Chris Dettwiler, Justin Helgestad, Jason Helgestad, Heather Helgestad, Andrew Helgestad, Eric and Shawn Birkrem, and Tanya (Rick) Marx; eight great grandchildren; half-sisters, Elida Schneider and Sue Agamite; many nieces and nephews; extended relatives; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin "Cutie"; daughter, Janet Birkrem; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Helgestad; and sister, Mary Berge. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at St. Paul Liberty Lutheran Church, 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield, with Rev. Holly Slater officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Liberty Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, in the church Education Center. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Cress Funeral Home, 201 Bue Street, Deerfield, and from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday at church. Memorials may be made in Pauline's name to Agrace HospiceCare Inc.
