Penny Kay Holum

Penny Kay Holum age 64, of Prairie du Sac, WI passed away on October 24, 2023 at Agrace Hospice from cancer. Penny was born on March 9, 1959 in Monroe Wisconsin.

She was the daughter of Arleigh Nybrotern and Gloria (Blum) Blaser. She graduated from Darlington High School and was united in marriage to Dan Holum on July 23, 1983. Penny was a Registered Nurse at a Madison hospital from 1979-1986. She returned to the University of Wisconsin and obtained her BA in Accounting and later her CPA license. She was employed in the accounting field from 1989-2015 working primarily at Re/Max Preferred and Journey Mental Health Center retiring in 2015.

 

Penny & her family enjoyed several trips camping with close family friends and relatives. After retirement she enjoyed several camping trips to National Parks which included hiking and getting lost quite a few times. Penny & Dan enjoyed five European trips over the last several years.

 

Penny and her Husband Dan enjoyed all 4 seasons biking, hiking, downhill and cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

 

Penny had a lot of hobbies but was passionate about being involved in music playing clarinet (and tinkered with the flute). She was involved in the Waunakee Community Band, Joyful Noise, the Florida Manatee County Community band and lastly the Sauk County/UW Baraboo band for the past 20 years. Her hobbies also included stained glass and quilting.

Penny loved to play golf with her ladies at Lake Wisconsin Country Club and Baraboo Country Club.

 

She enjoyed spending holidays making cut out cookies for her sons and grandchildren and making them homemade gifts.

 

Penny was a volunteer at ADRC assisting with meals and delivery. She immensely enjoyed assisting in the kitchen and talking about her shared Norwegian heritage with ADRC staff.

 

She is survived by her mother, Gloria Blaser, husband, Dan, her two sons Drew (Kayla) and Taylor (Tayler), her granddaughters, Charlie, Isla, Laycee, and Kyleigh.

She is also survived by her siblings Cindy (Tom), Jerry (Kathy), LuAnn (Mark) and SueAnn (Ernie).

Step sisters and brothers, Dave, Brenda (Gordon), Bryce (Terumi), Marla (Danny), and Dana (Henry).

She also was blessed with wonderful nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her father Arleigh Nybroten, Adolph Blaser (Stepfather) Oscar and Stella Nybroten, Melvin and Kathyrn Blum(grandparents)

 

 

A Memorial service will be held on Wed. Nov 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church  5763 County Rd Q Waunakee. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 until the time of services. A reception will follow.


We wish to thank Dr. James Heun and staff at SSM Health, Dr. Nataliya Uboha, MD, PhD and Nurse Stacy Baumeister UW Health Carbone Cancer Center, and Kevin Klingenmeyer RN at Agrace Hospice at home.

 

In Lieu of flowers,  a memorial will be designated by the family at a later date.
