Peter Nelson

Stoughton- Peter J. Nelson, age 84, died on Thursday, September 22, 2011. He was born on June 3, 1927, the son of Art and Anna (Olson) Nelson. Peter graduated from Stoughton High School, Class of 1945. On May 18, 1951 he married Dorothy Rice. Peter graduated from UW-Madison School of Business in 1957. He worked for the State of Wisconsin as Assistant State Treasurer, retiring in 1989. Peter was a life long member of Christ Lutheran Church. He served his community in many capacities including Stoughton City Council and Dane Co. Board of Supervisors. Peter is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; three children, Mitchell and Marc Nelson and Myra (Chris) Jensen; four grandchildren, Anna and Will Jensen and Shyloh and Zeke Nelson, sister, Sue (Jim) Dahlk; sisters-in-law, Doris (John) Slater and Bette Nelson; nephews, nieces and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Jane (as a young child) and Ruth Sundby; brothers, Arvid and Burlyn Nelson; and mother-in-law, Leona Rice. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 26, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Road B, Stoughton, with Rev. Scott Geister-Jones officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon following the services. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the charity of the donors choice.
