Peter G. Sahagian

Madison -- Peter G. Sahagian, age 86, passed away peacefully at Waunakee Manor Health Care Center on Wed. Nov. 18, 2009. Peter was born in South Milwaukee on Jan. 17, 1923, the son of Garabed and Yater (Doushgunian) Sahagian. Peter graduated from South Milwaukee High School and attended UW Milwaukee. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served for 3 years during WWII and was recalled for two years of duty during the Korean War. He married Constance June Glass on April 15, 1950. Peter's love of his wife began after WWII while he was a patient at Wood Veterans Hospital and Constance was a nursing cadet. Peter had a distinguished military career retiring from service as Lt. Colonel after 29 years of active, National Guard and Reserve Service. Peter received The Legion of Merit Award in 1972 for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to his county. He was one of the original members of the Wisconsin State Patrol and served for 14 years. He concluded his career with the Wisconsin State Department of Revenue. Peter is survived by six children; Ann Marie (Ron Hughes) Sahagian of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Susan (George) Fara of Bradenton, Fla., Rosemary (Michael) Neider of Middleton, Gary (Sandra) of Madison, Mary of Ontario, Calif., and Gerard of Bradenton, Fla.; Six grand children, Sonya, Lisa, Christopher, Joseph, Andrew and Thomas. He is further survived by five siblings; Rose Markarian, Martin (Gloria), Sam (Joyce), John (Joy) and Margaret Schroeder and many other relatives and friends. Peter was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Constance. There will be a mass of Christian Burial on Sat. Nov. 21, 2009 at 10:30 a. m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Dr. Madison with Msgr. Donn Heiar presiding. There will be a visitation from 9:00 a. m. until the time of service on Sat. at the church. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. John Ewalt and the entire staff of Waunakee Manor for their compassionate care and support.
