Phyllis Leckrone

Phyllis J. Leckrone, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at UW Hospital. She was born July 12, 1936, the daughter of Otto and Agnes (Norris) Bechtold in Indiana.

Phyllis grew up a farm girl and met her future husband, Michael Leckrone, in the 7th grade. They shared many experiences, including band where Phyllis played 2nd chair trumpet, only because the first chair was held by Mike, and his father was the band director. Phyllis and Michael were united in marriage on June 26, 1955 in North Manchester, Indiana. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a cherished grandmother. Phyllis loved children and was an early childhood special needs educator.

Phyllis loved to travel, and even short rides were made into an adventure. Whether it was a family trip to explore, a trip to find a donut, or special chocolate treat, Phyllis loved to be in the car. She loved annual trips to New York and Vegas to play the slots and was always up for a ride to find a garage sale. Phyllis loved sports, especially University of Wisconsin Football, and everything red and white. Schedules in the Leckrone household were always built around "The Price is Right", or fondly known as "Come on Down" by the family. Drew Carey was a favorite of Phyllis.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 62 years, Michael "Mike" Leckrone; their children, Mika (John) Mitmoen, Kristopher Leckrone, Milissa (John) Wilson, Milinda (Steve) Kahlenberg, and Erik (Kelly) Leckrone; grandchildren, Kami Jo (Anthony) Sanner, Michael Mitmoen, Turner, Raychel, and Josh Wilson, Courtney (Brian) Gehlsen, Holden, and Alex Kahlenberg; great-grandchildren, Lyra Jo, Apollo, and Luna Sanner; and a sister, Miriam (William) Ruppel. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Carl.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Holy Wisdom Monastery, 4200 County Road M, Middleton, WI 53562. Visitation will continue from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday, August 11, 2017 with a service to follow at 1:00 PM. A private burial will take place. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Phyllis's name be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, phone 800-805-5856, or online at stjude.org.
