Phyllis Witt Metcalf of Madison and Mission, Texas made her transition Friday, August 6. Born Sept. 23, 1933 in Chattanooga Tennessee, daughter of Methodist minister Rev. Ted Witt and Vergie Parks Witt, she spent most of her early life in Tennessee and southwest Virginia. She was blessed with four children, Teri, Jim, Jon and Rob, born during her marriage to Gene Summers. She and her husband LeRoy Metcalf spent 32 years of happy life together, traveling, golfing and playing bridge. She worked many years in the Madison Public School as a Counselor until her retirement in 1990. She had a lifelong love of children and spent many hours volunteering for different children's charities.
Survivors include husband, LeRoy; siblings, Jim Witt, Jackie (Chig) Mainous, Ted (Velma) Witt and William Witt; children, Rev. Teri Summers-Minette (Dan), Jim, Jon (Shellia) and Rob Summers; grandchildren, Amy, Beth and Ted Summers-Minette, Brandon and Aaron Summers; numerous nieces and nephews.
All are invited to a celebration of her life Tuesday, August 10 at 11am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 944 E. Gorham Street, Madison. Memorial gifts can be made to: Millennium Soccer Club in Madison, Madison Children's Museum, or Ronald McDonald House.
