Waunakee: Ralph E. Gumpf, Jr. died peacefully at home on November 23, 2021 after a long illness. Ralph was born in Washington DC on March 22, 1933 to Ralph E. and Beata M. Gumpf (Reinhardt). Ralph grew up in Billings, MT where he met his wife Dian. Dian and Ralph married on August 4, 1956, and moved to Madison, WI in 1959. After completing graduate work at UW-Madison, Ralph was hired by Madison Metropolitan School District as a teacher. He served the district for 39 years, retiring in 1999.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, brother David, and wife Dian. He is survived by two daughters, Sara (Greg) Melotte and Julie Gumpf. He is further survived by granddaughter Hayley Melotte, sister-in-law Janice Gumpf, brother-in-law Vernon (Gayle) Ott, and five nieces and nephews and their families.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to Agrace Hospice for their dedication and caring for Ralph and family throughout the last year of his life: It took a village to support Ralph on this journey, and your professional and personal support will always be remembered and treasured.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Agrace Hospice or Second Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin.
A Celebration of Life is tentatively being planned for spring of 2022; time and location to be announced.
