Madison: Randall H. Montague passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 23, 2017. He was born January 6, 1934 in Madison, the son of Homer and Adaline (Randall) Montague. He attended Randall School, and Madison West High, class of 1951. Forty five years later he married a classmate Doris Johnson, who survives him.
He was proud of his career in the U.S. Army, retiring after over 20 years of service as a Sgt. Major in 1975, serving in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He returned to Madison and was employed at National Guardian Life Ins. Co., retiring in 1994 at age 60 so he could spend more time doing what he loved, fly fishing on Black Earth Creek. His love of fishing began at age 4 when his father began teaching him.
He enjoyed meeting with the "lunch bunch guys" several times a month, and the occasional breakfast with "the cousins." Randall was an avid Packer and Badger fan.
Besides his wife, Doris, he is survived by her children; Bob (Jill) Gates, Tom (Dramise) Gates, Jim (Ruth) Gates, Alice (Jim) Dawdy, and Tim Tipler, sisters-in-law Lynn (Dick) Mueser, Louise Shafer-Upson, and Bob (Mary McMurray) Johnson, and "the cousins." Also surviving are 8 children in Colorado and a brother Kent (Lois) of Barneveld.
There will be no funeral services. Private burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Those who knew and cared about him know what a kind and caring person he was. Please share a memory at
