Sun Prairie - Raymond "Ray" Edward Kenefick, age 78, peacefully passed through Heaven's gates on July 16, 2017. He was born on July 9, 1939, in Rio, Wisconsin, the son of John Edward and Sylvia (Rierson) Kenefick. Ray was the second youngest of five siblings, Janice, Donald, Lois, Loren 'Bud', and Carol. He attended Rio High School and graduated in 1957. Following High School, he attended the University of Wisconsin. Ray was married to Dona Roberts on December 30, 1961 in Portage, WI. He began work in the vegetable processing business at the age of 21 in the field department. He was soon promoted as the head field man, and later became the plant manager at Poynette. Following that, he became plant manager of both the Sun Prairie and Poynette company locations. Ray retired from vegetable processing business in Sun Prairie at the age of 62. Many people can appreciate Ray for providing sweet corn for the Annual Corn Festival in Sun Prairie for many years.
Ray had a strong faith in God and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie. Over the years, he had been very involved with several churches. He served as president of the church council in Poynette and led a new church building project. He also assisted with numerous events.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dona Kenefick; two sons, Tyler (Janice) Kenefick, and Todd (Mary) Kenefick; his daughter, Amy (Matt) Hanson; six grandchildren, Allison and Brandon Kenefick, Sean (Nina) and Austin (Whitney Copus) Kenefick and Lauren and Jacob Hanson; a great-granddaughter, Auri Elizabeth Kenefick; siblings, Donald, Lois Dott, Loren 'Bud' and Carol DeMeo; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Neesam; two nephews, William Kenefick and Ronald Dott; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Kenefick and Carol Kenefick and a brother-in-law, Douglas Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at OUR SAVIOR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie, on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Timothy Hansen officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie or the Paul C Carbone Cancer Center, 600 Highland Ave, K4/658 Madison, WI 53792.
Ray will be deeply missed by his numerous friends and family.
