Rebecca Elizabeth Koch Sweeney, 34. Becca, a doting mother and wife, a loving daughter, a giving sister, and a committed and true friend to all, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 after a courageous and resolute two plus year battle with Leukemia. Becca was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD attended Mark Twain Elementary, Patrick Henry Jr. High and was a graduate of Lincoln High School. Pursuing her love for travel she studied abroad in France for a year before moving to St. Paul, MN where she studied Corporate Fitness Science at the University of St. Thomas. She went on to complete her Masters of Physical Therapy at the Mayo School of Health and Sciences in Rochester, MN.
She met her husband, Sean, while studying in Rochester and after her graduation they moved to Chicago, IL where she worked as a Physical Therapist at Rush University Medical Center.
They then moved to Madison, WI where she continued practicing PT at Meriter Hospital. During her career at Meriter Hospital, Becca was the lead therapist on the inpatient unit. Becca was passionate about her patients and an inspiration to fellow workers.
So much of Becca was giving; she was a woman dedicated to family and community. An incredibly loving and affectionate mother to her two children - there was nothing for which she cared more than Anna and Nora. Becca is survived by her husband, Sean, and two beautiful children, Anna Elizabeth and Nora Koch; her mother and father, Betsy and Dan Koch; and her brothers, Jim, Jeff, and John. Parents-in-law Gary and Dianne, brothers-in-law Brian (Stephanie), Todd (Sandra) and Kevin (Amy). Becca also has numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends whom she loved unconditionally.
Becca was a beloved friend, colleague and mentor to so many wonderful and supportive people who have been there every step of her journey with cancer. Becca was so grateful to her team of doctors and nurses at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics for the years of supportive care they provided.
A visitation for family, friends and colleagues, will be held from 4-7pm, Tuesday February 19, 2013 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI 53705.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday February 20, 2013 at Our Lady of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, WI 53711, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at church. A Celebration luncheon will be held following burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
