Reginald L. Flannery age 87, passed away on January 2, 2011. He was born January 15, 1923, the son of Lawrence and Dora (Dunbar) Flannery on the home farm in Pulaski Township near Avoca. He graduated from Avoca High School in 1940. Reg farmed several years with his parents and later with his brother Jim. He moved to Madison in 1964 and began working at the Mendota Mental Health Institute first as a truck driver and later as a groundskeeper before his retirement in 1985. On May 17, 1974, Reg was united in marriage with Edna (Weisensel) Coughlin at St. Peter Catholic Church. They enjoyed many years traveling and playing cards with family and friends. Edna preceded Reg in death in May of 1997.  Survivors include his sister-in-law Mary Joan Flannery of Black Earth and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister Paschal Johnson, infant sisters Anna and Marie, a brother James, brother-in-law Herbert Johnson and a niece Janice Johnson.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 6 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH 5001 N. Sherman Avenue where friends may call from 10:00 am until time of Mass. Father Roger Nilles will officiate. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Avoca.  The family would like to thank the staff of Oak Park Place West for the care and compassion given to Reg and also Reg's neighbors for allowing him to live independently for several years in his home due to their kindness and support. He was thankful and proud to have such good neighbors.
