Madison- Renate A Metz passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 93 on December 18, 2016.
Renate Alexandra Suzanne Metz, nee Kulenkampff was born on August 16, 1923 in Bremen, Germany to Johannes and Frida (Lauenstein) Kulenkampff. She was born 15 minutes earlier than her twin brother Jochen Kulenkampff. She would never let him forget that she was the oldest.
Renate married Walter L. Metz November 14, 1945 in Germany. The family immigrated in 1960 from Germany and lived on a farm in Monticello, WI. Moving to the Madison/Middleton area in 1969. Mrs. Metz was the Business Manager for Associated Physicians from 1970-1995. Even after her retirement she liked to go by the clinic and make sure everything was running smoothly. She loved to travel. She made her last trip to Germany in 2014 to celebrate the 91st birthday with her twin brother in the city where they were born. He came to the US to celebrate their 90th birthday in Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, her brothers Hans Ludwig and Heinz Kulenkampff, her sisters Barbara Medicus and Annemarie Boye. She is survived by her four children: daughter Elisabeth (Robert) Marcinkowski, son Jan-Albert (Marilyn) Metz, daughters Irmgard Metz and Gundel Metz and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin brother Jochen Kulenkampff and her sister Elisabeth von Glasenapp. Funeral services will be held in Germany.
We would like to thank Dr. Thomas Hyzer and Dr. Peter Thurlow for their great care of our mother throughout the years. We want to thank the following individuals for helping out with the care of our mother: Elizabeth Moore, Katarina Milos, and Marian Lang for being such loyal caretakers of our mother during the last three years. We also thank Gretchen Kloster, Grace & Claire Davenport, Denis Milos and LaNah Franklin for helping out at various times. A special thank you to Agrace and their teams, especially Brian James.
