Stoughton -Reneé Vedvig passed away on May 2, 2023 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born on April 18, 1964 in Madison, the daughter of Rick and Ruth Roedell. She was 59 years old.
Reneé married her high school sweetheart, Dan Vedvig, who she spent 45 loving years with. Dan fell in love with Reneé at first sight, and it only took a few dates for them both to know it was a forever love. They married on September 1, 1984 in Stoughton. Reneé and Dan had three daughters, Roxanne, Hillary, and Ashley, all before Reneé turned 30. Reneé loved her girls unconditionally and was obsessed with doting on (and spoiling) her five grandchildren. She was especially close with her oldest grandson Colby, who considered her his best friend for the first several years of his life. She had many friends over the years and was always warm and welcoming to new friends and old.
She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, where she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher. She loved all animals, especially dogs, and is survived by her beloved rescue pups Lucy and Charlie. She supported several dog rescue organizations and served as a foster mom to a few lucky dogs over the years. She loved taking her dogs on evening buggy rides on the farm, playing board games, RV camping (not tent camping) with friends and family, and going to the movies.
Reneé grew up on Lake Kegonsa and loved being on the water, whether on a pontoon boat or at an oceanfront resort in Mexico. She also loved planning vacations, whether to Cancun, on cruises, or to visit family on the east or west coasts. She enjoyed going to concerts, plays, and musicals. Reneé loved cooking and baking and collected many, many recipes and recipe books for everyday meals and special occasions. She loved getting together with her large extended family for holidays, birthdays, and just because. She always found reasons to celebrate and her infectious laughter will be deeply missed. Reneé will be remembered for her generous spirit, unconditional support of her loved ones, and sense of humor.
Reneé struggled with health issues for many years, from chronic respiratory issues to lung cancer to ultimately multiple organ failure. Her spirit always shined brighter than her physical body allowed her to, and she hated dwelling on her illnesses. She would want any friends, family, or anyone reading this, to cherish all aspects of their health dearly, because you never know when it might go. She would also want to remind everyone to ask for help when you need it, and to have an open heart and open mind to accept the love and care that may come your way.
Reneé is survived by her mother, Ruth Roedell, her father-in-law Richard (Susan Waters) Vedvig, her mother-in-law Marilyn Burrington, her husband Dan, her daughters Roxanne (Scott) Johanning, Hillary (Case Stiglbauer) Vedvig, and Ashley (Adam Popanz) Vedvig, her grandsons Colby and Louie Johanning, Henry Vedvig-Popanz, Roland Vedvig, and granddaughter Sullivan Johanning, and siblings Randy (Julie) Roedell, and Robin Roedell, brothers and sisters-in-law Jeff (Sue) Vedvig, Lisa (Teddy) Keehn, and her nieces Alie (Alex) Hubing, Hanna (Josh) Gohlke, Erica (Dave) Voelker, Samantha and Sarah Hanson, and nephew Andrew Keehn. Reneé is preceded in death by her father, Rick Roedell, her father-in-law Clyde Burrington, grandparents Ruth and Art Monum, Louie and Ruth Jane Roedell.
The visitation will be Friday, May 12 from 4pm to 7pm at Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton. The funeral services will be Saturday, May 13 at 11am, with a 10am visitation, at First Lutheran Church in Stoughton.
God saw her getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around her
And whispered “Come with Me”
With tearful eyes
We watched her suffer
And saw her fade away
Although we loved her dearly
We could not make her stay
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hardworking hands laid to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
If you would like to honor Renee’s memory, please consider donating to an animal rescue shelter in her name or to the First Lutheran Church Sunday School Fund. She particularly loved the Minnesota Wisconsin Collie Rescue Organization. She also loved tulips, and Lily of the Valley. She would love for you to plant those in your own gardens and think of her every time they bloom
