Richard (Dick) Charles Dahmen passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the age of 97.

Dick was born on August 1st, 1927 to Charles H. and Anna (Weiss) Dahmen, the oldest of three boys and three girls. Dick lived eleven years in Madison, WI, seven years in Plain, WI, fifty-four years in Middleton and his final years in Waunakee, WI. He attended 1st through 5th grade at St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Madison then moved to Plain, WI and continued his education grades 6 through 12 at St. Luke Catholic School, graduating on May 17th, 1945. Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he worked thirty-four years for the Decar Corporation in Middleton and another fifteen years for the University of

Wisconsin-Madison including nine years with Student Housing and his last six years with Student Health Services.

The years Dick spent in Plain attending St. Luke’s Catholic School were always very special to him. He first lived with his Uncle Leo and Aunt Mary Weiss and then spent his last year of high school living with the Ed and Alma (Ring) Liegel family. During that time, he developed strong relationships with his mother’s relatives and bonded with many great people. Over the years, Dick stayed in touch with these family members and friends. He always cherished the friendships and memories he had with all of them.

Dick married Mary Jane Adler on November 25th, 1950. They built a home in Middleton where they lived for forty-nine years before moving to Waunakee in 2000. During their more than sixty-five years of married life together, they enjoyed bowling, playing cards and traveling with family and friends. Mary Jane passed on May 2, 2016.

Dick was an active community member and volunteered time to St. Bernard’s Holy Name Society, Middleton Historical Society, Forest Products Research Society, Middleton Chamber of Commerce; Middleton Public Works Committee, Middleton Optimist Club, Cross Plains/Middleton American Legion Posts 245 and 275 and as a Charter Member of St. Luke’s Catholic Order of Foresters Court #2000.

Dick leaves behind his three children and their families: daughter Linda Meier, grandson Mike (Carrie) and granddaughter Mandi; daughter Lori Wandschneider, granddaughter, Jamie (Sean), grandson Bryan and granddaughter Ali (Jake); son Randy (Julie), granddaughter Kara (Cal), grandson Kyle and granddaughter Kim along with 8 great-grandchildren. Additional family includes; sister Helen Hurtgen; brothers Bob Dahmen and Lew Dahmen; in-laws, Bernie Zimmer, Laura (Roger) Hollfelder and Alice Zander. Those who have gone before him include: sisters, Doris (Johnson) Smith and Anna Marie Johnson, sisters-in-law, Dolores Zimmer, Rita Fredenburg, Annaliese (Bob) Dahmen and Mary Lynn (Lew) Dahmen; brothers-in-law Mike Zander, Jim Johnson, George Smith, Bob Johnson; and son-in-law Rich Wandschneider.

Dick and his family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Home Again Independent and Assisted Living for the care and support given to him during his stay there.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bernard’s Church 2015 Parmenter St. in Middleton at 11:00a.m on Wednesday March 19, 2025. A visitation at the church will begin at 9:00a.m. until the time of Mass on Wednesday. A reception will follow at the church. Private burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials in Dick’s name can be made to UW Organ and Tissue Donation, Carbone Cancer Center or Agrace Hospice.
