Richard F. "Dick" Acker

Richard F. "Dick" Acker age 73 of Waunakee passed away peacefully after a long illness at Waunakee Valley Senior Living on February 6, 2024.  

He was born on August 17, 1950 to Jerome and Evelyn (Ballweg) Acker.  Dick married Ruth (Zander) on June 24, 1972 at St. Mary's Catholic church.   Dick was a devoted husband and a loving, caring father and grandfather.  Dick's greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.  Dick traveled with family and friends to many destinations both within the U.S. and Internationally.  He was an avid bowler and with his team went to the National Championship Tournament each year.   

He was a fan of all Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Packers, Badgers and Brewers.  

Dick served in the Army Reserves from 1969 to 1975 with the rank of Spec 5.  He was a member of American Legion Post 360 of Waunakee.  

Dick worked in the construction business for many years, retiring in 2016 from Cleary Building Corp.  He made many lifelong friends while working at Cleary and enjoyed visiting with them over the years.  

Dick is survived by his wife Ruth and 3 children: Tracy (Jeff) Halverson, Richard (Sara) Acker and Sarah (Matt) Baumgartner.  Seven Grandchildren, Megan (Tyler), Kelsi, Joshua (Rachel), Addy, Mayson, Chase and Bo. His siblings: Pat (Joe) Barbian, Arnie Acker, Ruth (Kevin) Albrecht and Colleen (Mark) Johnson. In-laws: Diane (Dave) Reible, Bill (Karen) Zander, Dick (Nina) Zander, Ginny (Jim) Schaller, Margie (Steve) Hoffmaster, Nancy (Jeff) Bell, Beth Zemp, Jerome (Lynn) Zander and Ron Zander. 

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bob Acker. Parents in-law Arnold and Eline Zander.  Brothers in law: Art, Larry and Greg Zander.  Sisters in law:  Kara Acker and Marlene Zander. 

 Funeral services will be held on Friday Feb 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Atluru and UW Hospital and Clinics, Agrace Hospice Care (Rachel and Melanie) and the staff at Waunakee Valley Senior Living for their thoughtful and compassionate care of Dick.
