Richard Faust

October 12, 1922 — August 22, 2012

WAUNAKEE/MADISON: Richard "Dick" C. Faust, age 89, passed away during the early evening on Wednesday, August 22 2012, at the Waunakee Manor due to complications from a recent hip replacement surgery.
Dick was born October 12, 1922, the son of Hubert & Lillian (Vitense) Faust in Madison WI. He graduated from Madison East High School in 1940 and enrolled in the University of Wisconsin - Madison where he pitched for the baseball team. Dick enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and fought in WWII in the South Pacific, with the 37th Ohio Infantry Division. Their division saw a great deal of combat and many of his fellow soldiers were killed in action. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious achievement in ground combat against the armed enemy during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations. He made it home safely from the war on Christmas Day, 1945, and shortly thereafter re-enrolled at UW and earned his Bachelor's of Business Administration degree in 1949.
He met and later married Dorothy Grace Meister on July 21, 1951. In the early years of their marriage, they embarked on numerous traveling journeys in a quest to see as much of the United States by car as they could. After settling down in Madison, WI, they raised three sons. Dick coached little league baseball and often commented on one of his fondest memories of when they won the West Madison Little League Junior Division Title.
He was proud of his accomplishments with General Casualty, having worked with them for 36 years. He retired as their Treasurer in 1981 to care for his wife, Dorothy, who passed away in 1986. Dick met and spent many enjoyable years golfing and traveling with a group of friends, which included his special friend, Patricia "Pat" Richards, whom he knew from General Casualty. He lost a dear friend in Pat when she passed away in December, 2011.
His greatest joys of late were his 4 beautiful grandchildren whom he loved dearly. His favorite times would be spent smiling, laughing and listening to the many stories they loved to share with him. Dick's final sentiment to his sons was how much he loved them and how proud he was of them and their families.
He is survived by his three sons, John "Jack" of Richland Center, Michael (Karla) of Lodi and Gregory (Valerie) of Sun Prairie, four grandchildren Madison Faust, Riley, Connor and Quinn Faust; his brother, David of Arizona as well as nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother Reine (LaBlanche) Faust; his wife, Dorothy, three brothers Robert "Bob", John, and Raymond, his nephew James Faust and his special friend, Patricia Richards.
The family wishes to thank the Waunakee Manor for all of the loving care they provided to Dick over the last few years.
