MADISON- Richard James Goglio, Sr., passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Karmenta Nursing Home. He was born May 24, 1920, in Leechburg, PA (Westmoreland Co.) to parents Joseph and Giovanna (Seren) Goglio, both of whom were from Alpette, Italy. Richard moved from Pennsylvania to Indiana at the age of 18. He worked in steel mills until induction into military service in 1942. Richard entered the U.S. Army during World War II and served in Nova Scotia, New Guinea and the Philippines. On February 18, 1944, he married Neva Henry at Heesler Air Base, Biloxi, MS. Together they had four children: Richard Jr., Robert, Joyce and Michael. Richard was Honorably Discharged from the Army in 1946. After returning from oversees, he lived and worked in the Washington D.C. area in sales and at the Bureau of Customs. At that time he also took radio engineering courses. In 1952, Richard returned to Madison and worked as a salesman and owned his own grocery store. He was active in the University Chorus and MATC Show Choir. He also enjoyed doing broadcasts and interviews on WYOU. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Neva M. Goglio; children, Joyce (Roy Davis) Goglio and Michael (June) Goglio; grandchildren: Robert Jr., Mark, Anthony, Joseph, Josh and Frances; great grandchildren: Nicholas, Kyler, Tiana and Ayden; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Richard Jr. and Robert; brothers: Mario, Edward, Columbus, Alex and Ramon; sisters: Amelia, Pearl, Yolanda and Marina. A special thank you to the staff of Karmenta Nursing Home and HospiceCare, Inc,. for their care and support. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery.
