Richard Hook

Richard A. "Dick" Hook passed away peacefully Monday, December 12, 2011 at his home at age 75. Dick was born in Madison on December 15, 1935, the only child of Linda H. Lappley-Hook. He was a lifelong resident of Madison. He was a graduate of Madison West High School, Class of '54. On April 28, 1956 he was united in marriage to Beverly Larson. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2005.

Dick worked for Otis Elevator for 40 years until his retirement. He was a sports enthusiast and very active with Madison athletics. He played many sports, but was an avid hockey and fast-pitch softball player. He extended his love of the sports by volunteering much of his time coaching both youth hockey and fast-pitch softball. He was a fan of all Wisconsin sports, but also loved to watch his beloved Cubs. Dick had a zest for life and cherished all the friendships he made over the years.

Dick will be dearly missed by his daughters: Kristi (Larry) Hook-Schultz, Karri (Dennis) Hook-Kelliher and Chick Lillis; grandchildren: Nicholas (Dina) Reed, Robyn (Nick) Lowenberg, Brad Brietzman and Andrew Gadow. He is further survived by, The Roosters-Dick, Dave, John and Bob. This group of men met for coffee religiously twice a week. Dick valued his time with The Roosters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly and mother Linda.

A Celebration of Dick's Life will be held from 9 until 11 am on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Refreshments will be served Hook Family style during the gathering. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery will be held privately.

The family wishes to thank Agrace HospiceCare and Dick's neighbors for their care and support which allowed him to stay in his home. The family also extends a special thank you to Bob and Delores Annen for their life-long friendship and love. Donations in Dick's memory can be made to Agrace Hospice Care.
