Richard P. Likwarz

d. September 13, 2008

MarshallRichard P. Likwarz age 65 of Marshall passed away on September 13, 2008 at Meriter Hospital. In September 2007 he was given the diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome. From then on he was able to enjoy a very special year. He never looked back or asked ""why me"". He looked at life as a gift, continuing to love, learn, work and play. He saw plays, went on hikes, researched investments, and enjoyed weekend get-a-ways. Richard was the son of Mathew Likwarz and Lillian (Mueller) Likwarz. He married Janet Cobb on July 23, 1966 in Milwaukee. He graduated from UWM with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor of Business Administration. Richard worked for Allen Bradley in Milwaukee for 8 years and Ray-O-Vac in Madison for 26 years. Then he received a degree in Medical Coding and worked for the UWM Foundation, Department of Dermatology. He considered these to be the best of his working years because he enjoyed the doctors, nurses, and staff (They really are the Best!) A special thanks to all of the Oncology nurses, 6th floor East nurses, nursing assistants and doctors at Meriter Hospital and Maria his Hospice nurse. There are no words to say to Michael Huie his doctor, the eternal optimist. He always gave us hope and the gift of his time. Richard is survived by his wife, Janet of 42 years; his daughter, Christin (Chris) Gibbons; his son, Andy and two grandchildren, Jeremy and Arielle Likwarz; a brother, Thomas (Bonnie) Likwarz and a sister Merrie (Rocky) Vannucci; along with many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. The Friends of the Marshall Community Library will host a celebration of Richard's life and Richard and Janet's service to the library on September 28, 2008 from 1 -- 4:30 pm at the Marshall Community Library. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Friends of the Marshall Community Library, 605 Waterloo Rd., Marshall, WI 53559.
