Waunakee/Glen Ellyn, IL. - Richard W. Myers, age 89, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at his home in Waunakee. He was born on December 9, 1926, the son of Charles and Katherine (Jeffers) Myers. Richard graduated from Davenport High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Clara Fisher on February 12, 1946. Richard worked as loan officer at First Federal in Davenport and then had various jobs in construction and sales before retiring from A.A. Conte & Sons in West Chicago, as Controller. He always had a great love of big band music and drum and bugle corps - especially the Guardsmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Schaumburg, IL and the Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps, Racine, Wisconsin, and he never met a parade he did not enjoy.
He is survived by his wife Clara Myers, his children, Dale (Ingrid) Myers of West Allis, WI, Christine (James) Knutte of Fontana, WI, Gary (Beverly) Myers of Houston, TX, Katherine (William) Veerhusen, of Sun Prairie, WI and Beth Ellen Myers of Madison, WI; twenty grandchildren and their spouses, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Edith Nelson, Doris Porth and Dawn Fisher; brother-in-law, Glenn Diggs; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles Jr. and Carl, sister, Margy, brothers-in-law, Larry Fisher, Wendell Porth, Hartley Nelson and Herb Compton.
A memorial service will be held at VAN HOE FUNERAL HOME, 1500 6th Street, East Moline, IL, on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service. A lunch will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Richard's name to your favorite charity.
