Seiler, Richard F.
Madison: Richard Frank Seiler, age 88, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2019 at Coventry Village. He was born on August 23, 1930 in Algoma, the son of Frank and Minnie Seiler. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet, and their two children and four grandchildren: David, his wife Lisa and their children John and Tina; and Amy, her husband Kendall, and their children Helen and Andy. Dick's two sisters, Lois Mickelson and Maxine Schmidt, reside in Sturgeon Bay.
Dick spent his childhood and early teaching career in Door County, and held a lifelong love of that part of Wisconsin, particularly the outdoors. Frequently, his first comment to meeting someone new was, "Have you ever been to Door County?" He dedicated his professional career to teaching elementary school and, over a span of 40 years in the Elmbrook School District, left an indelible mark on many students who loved his popcorn parties for reading books, stock market game, and live animals in his classroom. He spent hours on weekends reading and commenting on student journal entries he assigned which allowed him to truly know his students. After retiring from teaching, his new passion became cooking, which led to demonstrating culinary products at Marshall Field's at Mayfair Mall. There, he would engage shoppers with the latest gadgets and samples and speak with many former students and their families. Janet and Dick relocated from Brookfield to Sussex in 1999, where he spent countless hours tending to his yard and koi pond. The last three years were spent in Madison at Coventry Village.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff at Coventry Village, Senior Helpers of Madison, and Agrace Hospice for their kindness and guidance.
The family will hold a private celebration of Dick's life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Alzheimer's & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin (
