Richard Lee Spivey, 74, passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 6th at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI. Richard was born November 1st, 1948, in Kankakee, Illinois to Melvin and Mardell Spivey. After graduating Bishop McNamara High School in 1966, he went onto Illinois State University, where he graduated in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
Richard was a loving father to 3 children, Molly Spivey, Charles Spivey, and Madeline Jens. He was beloved dog grandfather to Samwise, Max, and Pippin. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first grand daughter, Adeline Charlee, later this summer. He is survived by his daughter Molly, son Charles, sister Cheryl (Terry) Nourie, brother Kevin (Faith) Spivey, Sister Linda (Gary) Martin, and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Mardell Spivey, his daughter Madeline, his bother-in-law Terry, and his nephew Jeff.
Richard retired in 2007 from American Family Insurance as a Senior Development Analyst. Richard enjoyed volunteering at the Prairie du Sac Fire Department (1982-1987). He also enjoyed working on his stocks, had a passion for politics, and loved flying planes during his younger years. He loved working on his family tree and spending time with his animals and family. More than anything he liked talking to his brother, sisters, and friends on the phone for hours at a time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dane County - Humane Society.
