MADISON - Richard L. "Dick" Tolleson, age 84, passed away on Sunday February 16, 2014 in Madison. He was born October 15, 1929 in Shawnee, OK the son of the late O.W. and Juanita (Casteel) Tolleson. Dick is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, and while focusing on his studies there, he met the love of his life Wanda Ozment. They married on June 8, 1952 in Pond Creek, OK, and began their life together.
Dick retired from Oscar Mayer after 36 years. He was a shining example of a hardworking man who rose through the ranks to become the Executive Vice President of Oscar Mayer, eventually serving as the Vice Chairman of the Board of General Foods.
Dick was a World War II history buff, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy, which evolved into a lifelong love of the water and sailing.
He was a believer in the power of education and strongly encouraged and supported the education of his children and grandchildren in its pursuit.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Wanda. Dick was especially proud of his family, including his 3 children; Dixie (Joe) Nolan of New Jersey, Sandee Tolleson of Madison, and Mike (Patty) Tolleson of McFarland, his 5 grandchildren; Kate (Chris) LaFontaine, Sarah Nolan, Joey Nolan, Devin Tolleson, and Sami Tolleson, 2 great grandchildren; Amelia and Nolan LaFontaine. He is further survived by many dear friends.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Jeri Tolleson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to United Way of Dane County, 2059 Atwood Avenue, Madison, WI 53704.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 22, 2014 at CRESS FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Private burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday. A light luncheon will follow immediately after the funeral at the Maple Bluff Country Club.
