Richard Walling

Dousman, WI/Brooksville, FL - Richard L. "Dick" Walling, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 after suffering a heart attack on January 9. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and children at Oakhill Hospital in Florida.
He was born in Anthon, IA on February 15, 1932, the son of Cornelius and Gertrude (Rhode) Walling. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and served as the air traffic controller on Johnston Island in the Pacific during the Korean War. He later attended Iowa State University where he met his wife, Alberta (George). After graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he worked for GE Medical Systems for 29 years. During his retirement years he enjoyed many hobbies including reading, traveling, cooking, golfing, woodworking, gardening and fishing. He received much pleasure in planning for and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alberta; five children and eight grandchildren, Cathy Walling (Scott Bell) and their children, Sophia and Sarah of Fairbanks, AK; David (Deb Fuqua), Jessica and Michael of Cincinnati, OH; Karen (Rich) Moravec, Elliot and Steven of Oregon, WI; Lynn (John) Moniak, Sarah and Paul of Sun Prairie, WI; and Laura of Brooklyn, WI; five sisters, seven sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert the Great Drive, Sun Prairie, WI on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Burial will conclude at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and also at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM.
