Rita Maier

Rita Maier, age 86, died on Thurs. Jan. 2, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, following a short illness. She was born in Dane on March 29, 1927 to Hubert and Elizabeth (Statz) Maly. She married Herman Maier on March 29, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2006. Rita enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing Bingo, raising her chickens and most of all, spending time with her family. Rita had a strong faith and was a member of the Council of Catholic Women, and a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her five children; Joyce (Kenneth) Statz, Stan Maier, Lois (Fran) Tourdot, Yvonne (Jeff) Adams and Barb (Russ) Cable. Nine grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Statz, Andrea (Jon) Simon, Nathan & Devin Maier, Jamie (Kelly), Jeff(Ginny), & Chris(fiance,Echo) Tourdot, Benjamin & Samantha Cable. Eleven great-grandchildren. Five brothers and sisters, Theresa Ziegler, Hy (Jim) Miller, Gerald (Dorothy), Duane (Ruth), Syl(Kathy) Maly and many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, sister-in-law, Marilyn Maly and brother-in-law, Marvin Ziegler.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Waunakee. Msgr. James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at St Martin's Cemetery in Martinsville.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Waunakee Manor for the many years of care, her family at Homestead Living and the Agrace HospiceCare Center for the last couple of days.
